Grant Shapes Housing
I watched Grant Shapps on SKY News this morning with absolute horror. Let me make it quite clear I don’t live in council accommodation but I can only imagine the worry of millions of people across the country when they watched this MP with the housing portfolio putting the fear of god into the lives of so many people.
On the same day as they are talking about the government having another “Thatcher the Milk Snatcher” moment we move on to “Shapps the House Snatcher” When will this man who lives in the lap of luxury realise the majority of voters can only dream of his lifestyle if they were to win the lottery?
The answer is to build residential skyscrapers with underground car parks set in a gated community environment. These should be one, two & three bedroom apartments with well proportioned rooms rather than the Russian style rabbit hutches of the 60’s that no one wanted to be stuck in.
Modern Skyscrapers can have fantastic facilities simply because of their density. They can have 100 Meg broadband, Fitness Centres, Convenience shops on the ground floors, cable TV & Sky built in, air conditioning and wind turbines at the top of the building to reduce running costs as they do in places like Australia.
Grant Shapps has to incentivise people to live in high density accommodation not worry them with a stick. Free up funds to build these skyscrapers by selling existing local authority stock and build them along river banks in a pleasant environment not in concrete ghettos which terrify the occupants. It wont be long before people are queuing up to occupy these buildings.
How would Grant Shapps propose to recompense people that have installed fitted kitchens, upgraded bathrooms, fitted wardrobes, carpets and double glazing in their existing council homes? His scheme would lead to no one doing anything to their homes and relying totally on the housing authorities to maintain their homes. It doesn’t take long to nail down the coffin lid on this mad idea!
